cole: not yet. heard the binding alone is worth it
j: it's incredible. she treats every page as a surface
mari: ordering now
cole: same
j: the way she uses paper weight as a design variable... nobody else does that

Why this exists

Every chat app became a productivity tool or a social network. Somewhere along the way, the room itself stopped mattering. Glasshouse is an attempt to bring it back.

The company that builds Glasshouse is one person. It is independent and sustained entirely by its members.

Our only business is to make Glasshouse an experience worth paying for. The people who use it are our only customers. We don't sell ads, we don't sell data, and we don't take investment.

What we believe

Small rooms over big channels

A conversation with 6 people is fundamentally different from a conversation with 600. We optimize for the first one. Rooms have member caps because intimacy requires limits.

Presence is not a status indicator

There are no green dots, no typing indicators, no read receipts. You're present when you're here. You're not absent when you're not. A room should feel like a place you return to, not a place that demands your attention.

The internet used to have rooms

Before feeds and algorithms, you went somewhere specific to talk to specific people about a specific thing. That was better. We think it's worth rebuilding.

Pay for the room, not for the person

Glasshouse costs $10/month to create rooms. Joining is free, forever. The person who builds the room sustains it. Everyone else just walks in.
